I used The Needle's Eye and had a terrific experience. The service was FAST. At first, I was worried, because she scheduled my second fitting only a week before my wedding; however, she finished in time to have the gown steamed and pressed. She was also able to look at the cut of the dress and determine that I didn't need a crinoline skirt underneath, which saved me some money since that would've needed alterations as well. She was also able to fit in appointments at night, so I didn't have to take off from work. Overall, it was a very affordable and pleasant experience.

It is not on your list, but I wanted to leave a NEGATIVE review for Inta Alterations off Richmond Rd in Lexington. The shop is run by Inta and her husband, and I went to them without a rec because I live close and have passed it a hundred times. I went in today to get a BM dress altered, and Inta's husband looked at the dress and told me I probably couldn't afford alterations by them. I asked him how much it would be and he said $73. I told him that would be fine, because I am in a hurry to get it altered before my friend's wedding. He then told me they could do it in my timeframe, but he knew it is a lot of money so I should probably call around to find a price I could afford. I was quite offended. I do not think $73 is unreasonable for getting a 4 layer dress taken in and hemmed in 6 days! I guess if I ever decide to go there again, I will actually wear the formal dress I need altered, because evidently I gave off the homeless vibe in my jeans, tank-top, and flip flops today! While I was in there, a girl came in (2 hours before they closed) to get her prom dress altered. They told her to come back on Monday or Tuesday to get fitted. The girl said this is her only day off work, and they still said no, because they had been busy all day and wanted to close. I told the girl that we should both leave because they obviously did not want our business. I ended up going to Sew Fine on Euclid, and look forward to posting a good review for them next week.

After my bad experience with Inta's, I went to Sew Fine after my neighbor recommended them. There was a sign at the shop saying if you drop off garments that day they will be ready on the date 20 days from then. I asked if they could alter my bridesmaid's dress in six days, and she said yeah, no problem. I went back the next week to pick it up and it was perfect. She only charged me $75 to take in and hem a 4-layer floor length gown, and didn't tack on a rush fee. There were tons of people in the shop, and tons of dresses everywhere. I can only assume this woman doesn't eat or sleep to get all of these dresses finished in time. I was very pleased with Sew Fine's service, and since over 50% of the wedding industry relies on word-of-mouth advertising, I wanted to give them two thumbs up!

Helen Milburn came highly recommended, and after she did both my dress and one of my bridesmaid dresses, I recommend her any chance I get now. She put in my french bustle, which was fantastic, and the fit of the work I had done at the bust and waist was perfect. And it was so much less expensive than I ever thought it could be.

Moda Alterations and Embroidery is the best Alteration shop I have been to in Lexington. They recently moved stores to a bigger location which is very nice, they have a very comfortable vibe and Yelena (the owner) is so nice! Her work is always perfection, and they monogrammed my bath towels for me (which look amazing). I highly, highly, highly recommend Moda Alterations, I have told all my friends about them and encourage you to stop by!
